Sugar & Spice Nursery Design: Budget Series

Another Friday, another design! And this weeks design kicks off our 2nd series, designing on a budget! Don’t get me wrong, I tend to have expensive taste and want to pick the best of the best, but we can’t always go crazy and spend $5,000 on a bedroom makeover. I also have a degree in Accounting and who doesn’t love to budget a little to see their bank account grow? Keep your money circulating though to see it come back to you, and you have the best of both worlds! So today we’re combining design and budgeting in one. I’m a firm believer that spaces, colors, and pieces that surround you will influence your energy and moods. Creating a space for your baby and kids will be that much more special to both them and you. I’m setting the budget for these next 4 nurseries to be under $1,500! We’re putting most of the budget to the big pieces; the rocker, crib and dresser. As for décor, you can stay fairly simple with bookshelves, frames that you could thrift and fill with Etsy prints, and I love wall decals or peel & stick wall paper to fill an accent wall. Paint can also be an easy room transformation, but the supplies to do so can get expensive. I budgeted on the higher end at $100, but that may be a spot you can save on! Let me know if you have any budgeting questions, or if there is something you want to see on next week’s saving design. Thanks for stopping by! XO – G

Modern Art Deco Nursery by G

Hello and happy Friday! Today I’ve put together a design inspired by this midi sized blanket I sewed. It’s a baby pink background with a terrazzo print of navy, orange and white. It’s my take on modern art deco. When I found a rug that matched my blanket print, the visualization of this space just took off! I was envisioning a natural white crib for this space so I knew I had to start shopping at Babyletto. The acrylic rails to their Harlow crib make this piece really stand out. For this design, a matching dresser set fit the space I envision. I love to mix and match dressers and cribs, but sometimes a set is just too good to not stay cohesive. I kept the finishing accents simple, with room to add your own pieces already sourced, or to thrift new ones inspired by this design. Maybe a vintage lamp, a fun mirror or your own unique prints or artwork. For an added fun share, I placed a padded play mat by Gathre along with a modern toy bar in this nursery design. Every little piece is simple, yet very sophisticated for the modern baby! I hope you enjoyed this week’s design and I’ll be back next week with another one. Don’t forget to like my Instagram post and see the blanket print behind the design!

Written in the Stars – A Nursery Design

Do you ever find a piece of furniture and immediately want to build a room around it? How about just a color or print? I love finding a piece that speaks to me and curating a special space from it. The next 4 weeks I’m brining you just that every Friday! I recently started to sew baby blankets, and while I am not a pro sewer yet, it is brining me back to my creativity. I had the idea then to create a nursery design inspired by each print. Today, I am introducing you to the ‘Written in the Stars’ nursery design.

I started with this dreamy iron crib by Namesake. It looks like the perfect piece for your baby to fall asleep in, dreaming beneath the stars. If you checkout Namesake’s furniture pieces, you will find they have many sets to choose from. I paired the Noelle crib with this Liberty dresser. The dresser is feminine with a touch of vintage, keeping things true and classic. Timeless pieces are where I dream the most, so I hope you do too when seeing these two paired together. From there I took the colors from the blanket, and paired simple yet sophisticated accents to this design. My favorite has to be the rug. It’s washable and a really great price! I included some fun accents as well that are always needed in a nursery or home. A photo frame, these Mushie Nesting Stars, and a Kyte Baby footie for your little one to play or sleep in. Make sure you check out my links below to each piece. Also make sure to head to my Instagram @stylinglifebyg to see the blanket that inspired this all! I hope this brings you a spark of inspiration as you design or refresh your spaces! Thanks for stopping by – xo, G

A Little Lilac Nursery

Hi everyone and welcome to April! Today I wanted to put together a design that felt like Spring, as it is finally here! Often times we see nurseries designed around pinks or blues. Now though many different colors and themes are being incorporated into spaces for kids.

Below is a nursery design I put together, starting with Benjamin Moore’s paint color, Beach Plum. I kept everything else very neutral, with the one artwork piece in pink. I’ll have everything linked below, let me know what you think! XO, G

Everything is from Restoration Hardware Baby & Child, minus the rug.

Vintage Boys Room

Hi everyone and happy Monday! I am not sure where February went, I looked back at my last post and realized it has been almost a month. I am back today though with another design! I wanted to design a bedroom for a boy that could stay with him through toddler years to teen years. You never really want to keep buying furniture as your children age, so with these pieces they work for a younger or older child’s style.

The fun orbit chair may be something you change out once your child is older. For the fun vintage street signs though, a younger child would love them as they’re playing with toy cars, yet an older teen may appreciate them for their cool design factor. I really kept this design more simple and let the pieces speak for themselves! Check it out, and let me know what you think. Everything will be linked down below.

Neutral Animal Nursery

What’s the next cutest thing to a brand new baby? Baby animals! That’s exactly what the inspiration was for this nursery. I came across the cutest animal paintings by Kate and Laurel from Target. There were so many to choose from, but I ended up picking the baby lion, bear and cheetah. I wanted to keep this nursery gender neutral, as I envisioned a more natural space surrounding the art pieces.

The furniture I found is more modern, as are most of the accent pieces, but this design could totally be done around a more traditional styled home. You could change out the side table and dresser for something with a cleaner look and simpler lines. That’s the fun thing about design, things can always be changed up or replaced! Let me know what you think, XO, G.

Navy Blue Star Nursery

Hello! I’m excited to share this star/constellation themed nursery today with you all! It’s sort of a classic and something you may see quite a bit in nurseries, but I wanted to keep it simple and sophisticated. The light blue greyish wall color will grow with your child, and the rug could be used in any room of the house. Also, once the topper on the dresser is removed, you have a timeless piece of furniture to keep forever!

Take a look and let me know if you have any questions or are in need of some design guidance or more inspiration! I’ll have everything linked through its description below. XO, G

Floral Blush Pink Nursery

Hi everyone and happy Friday! Today I am back with another one of my own designs that I put together. I’m sticking to the avenue of kids spaces and nurseries for now, so I wanted to bring a design for a girls nursery this time. I wanted to showcase the big picture of what I had in mind, and left lots of ideas for accessorizing the space for if it were to ever come to life! (some picture frames, or another basket for blankets next to the rocking chair) Almost everything is from Target, other things I needed to look around to find exactly what I envisioned. It’s all about sourcing and where you’ll find what you need!

I went for a lot of pink, bringing in different tones, while still wanting to keep the calmer colors of cream and white stand out. This room would most likely be painted a warm neutral color in my eyes. The gold accents are my favorite touch, but those few pieces could always be switched out for something more subtle. Take a look and let me know what you think, I’ll have everything linked below!

And if you know of anyone looking for some design consulting on a project, have them contact me. Thanks for coming by, xo G.
